The ruination of a picturesque countryside
As some of you are aware, I'm installing a new phone system on the Indiana side of the Indiana and Illinois boarder this week. On my way up I saw the results of Green Energy for the first time. Massive white towers with propeller blades on them sanding over a hundred feet above what used to be beautiful rolling cornfields. I mean hey, we have more than corn in Indiana, but not much. Not one or two, but over a hundred visible from the highway. Oddly only two were moving, I'm assuming that the others are for additional capacity. For what it's worth the buzzing noise I've heard is associated with them was not noticeable from the highways, but the turbines certainly were. Are we running out of coal?
I've had it brought up here that I've failed to provide an alternative. Many years ago a show called The West Wing (oft The Left Wing) dealt with the issues and the many resulting problems with each green energy technology. That these wind turbines in fact change wind patterns on the ground and threaten birds. They glibly noted that a square of solar panels measuring 100 miles on each side would adequately supply the US with power, and dropped such a square on the deserts of the southwest US. They then noted it was infeasible.
There is however plenty of space to power most houses, and a portion of apartments on the roof. With breakthroughs in computer technology (specifically those involving the production of wafers for computer chips which use the same technology) the efficiency of these panels has increased in magnitude in the last 5 years.
They also failed to mention a green and clean power technology which the US has failed to invest in in the last 30 years. They also fail to mention it every time they talk about our carbon footprint vs the one in Europe. They aren't using less energy in Europe, they're using Nuclear Power. It's clean, it's safer than coal, and it's now incredibly efficient. A nation of Nuclear and Solar would drastically reduce our "carbon footprint" if such a thing even exists.
